Frequently Asked Questions Quick Links

Q: What is a Registered Land Surveyor?

A: A Registered Land Surveyor is a surveyor who has been registered by the Board of Surveying and Spatial Information because they have been assessed as competent in Town Planning, Engineering and Cadastral Surveys.

Only a Registered Land Surveyor can carry out subdivisions and other Cadastral surveys in NSW

Q: Who and What is the Board of Surveying and Spatial Information?

A: The Board is established under the Surveying Act, 2002 and is chaired by the NSW Surveyor General. It contains representatives of industry and Government.

The Board is responsible for assessment of Surveyors competency, ensuring continuing education requirements are met and review of legislation amongst other things

Q: What is “search”?

A: Search refers to the act of obtaining the necessary survey plans, titles, dealings covenants, and spatial information required in order to undertake a survey. It is a requirement of the Surveying Act and Regulations that search is up to date before undertaking a survey.

Q: Can I get my own search?

A: You can get your own search for us, however because of liability issues, we require that we do our own search instead.

Q: What if I don’t know what type of survey I need?

A: It doesn’t matter. We do not expect you to know what type of survey you need; only what you need to do with the survey. We can work out the rest for you.

Q: Do you give a written Quote?

A: We always give you a written quote and a scope of works with no hidden charges. Work cannot commence without a returned acceptance of the written quote.

Q: How long does a survey take?

A: Each survey is different, so it’s difficult to give an answer. An identification survey report can be done within 1 week, a detail survey may take 3 weeks and a subdivision can take considerably longer.
