Services - Measured Building Surveys Quick Links

Often a building is to be retained as part of a development, and this is particularly so for buildings of historical interest. In Australia it is common for an Architect to attend on the ground, and measure the building up thus forming a part of his refurbishment drawings.

More often than not, the Architect will assume that a building is square or will assume other angles and wall thicknesses. They will also assume that buildings are vertical and not twisted. Unfortunately, these drawings go out for construction generally with either no dimensions or incorrect dimensions, making the surveyors and builders job anything but simple. This in turn leads to project delays and additional client cost.

Some of this can be avoided by having initial plans that accurately reflect the true orientations of the building in question. We can show old buildings as they are, out of square, off set, twisted and out of level.

In turn plans can be accurately dimensioned by an Architect, allowing significant savings of time, effort and money.

This type of survey is very common in the UK where properties are significantly older than here, and refurbishments more commonplace.

We have been involved in a number of these types of surveys for the following purposes;

  • Refurbishment
  • Reconstruction of buildings
  • Planning
  • Use conversions e.g. from a warehouse to residential units
